AI SLOP IS NOT ART

I wanted each of these mugs to feel like a page ripped out of my sketchbook. To achieve this I used a red underglaze pencil crayon for all the writing and drawings on a white clay body. No stencils or decals, just intentional scribbles from my heart. Finished with a clear glaze, these mugs are all fired to cone 6. Each mug from this collection has both writing and drawings all the way around. Each mug is wheel thrown with a pulled handle. Holds approximately 15oz and is microwave and dishwasher safe. Handwashing recommended with non abrasive sponge.

This collection is dedicated to my fellow artists, art supporters, and anyone who feels like as a society we’ve been loosing touch with what makes us human. I think something positive to come from AI slop is the resistance to it. That more and more of us are valuing real craftsmanship and artistry now more than ever. We are looking for those details that tell us another human being made this thing. The humanness in this piece of art reflects the humanness in me. Real art connects us to ourselves and to each other. Art is not a means to an end. It’s not for mindless consumption. Art is not outsourcing the process - It is the process. It’s the challenges and breakthroughs and bursts of inspiration. It is a piece of the human being who made it. And one of the best parts is, you actually don’t have to be good at art for art to be good for you. Bad art is better than AI slop. Creating for the sake of it. Letting yourself be bad at something new. Supporting real artists, whether they’re selling wares at their very first market or have dedicated years of their life to getting great at what they do. I have been very fortunate in my career to have met so so many people who don't just want art in their homes, but want to support the artists who make it. Thank you.
